Available now

DeskOS is live on the App Store and ready to use. Download the app for iPhone or iPad with iOS or iPadOS 17 or later, then open DeskOS to start using your workspace.

Download on the App Store ↗

DeskOS is a one-time app purchase. Apple shows the current price, applicable taxes, and availability for your region. Purchases are handled through the App Store.

What is new

The public App Store release is 1.1.1. It includes EditlyPhotos for layered image editing and supported PSD projects, and EditlyEffect for motion compositions with layers, shapes, text and keyframes. Supported effect compositions can be exported as MP4 or transparent MOV.

This release also includes the personal-key DeskOS Assistant, adjustable desktop and trackpad layouts, and the offline ClassiCube building game. Update through the App Store to access these features. Optional AI use requires your own supported API account and may incur provider charges; a consumer chat subscription does not include API access.

Your first desktop

You'll need an iPhone running iOS 17 or later. An external desktop also needs a compatible display and an iPhone, cable, and adapter that support video output.

  1. Connect a display. For USB-C iPhones that support video output, use a video-capable USB-C cable or a compatible HDMI adapter. A charging-only cable won't carry the picture. Select the matching input on the monitor or TV.
  2. Open DeskOS. Keep the app in the foreground. Its workspace appears on the connected display, while your phone provides the controls.
  3. Open a tool from the Dock. Use the phone trackpad to move the cursor, tap to click, and use two fingers to scroll. Arrange and resize windows to suit your work.
  4. Adjust your view. Open DeskOS Settings to adjust the desktop's size and appearance for your display. Use the browser's minus and plus controls to adjust individual web pages.

For AirPlay, use Screen Mirroring in iPhone Control Center and choose a compatible receiver. Available display behavior depends on iOS and the receiver. Switching away from DeskOS can interrupt its workspace; it cannot keep an independent interactive desktop running indefinitely in the background.

No monitor nearby? Use the app's built-in desktop preview on your phone.

Keyboard & mouse

Keyboard

Connect a supported Bluetooth or USB keyboard to your iPhone, then select a text field in DeskOS. Without an external keyboard, selecting an editable field brings up the phone keyboard. Third-party websites can handle input differently.

Physical mouse on iPhone

Mouse input depends on what iOS exposes to DeskOS. For a compatible Bluetooth or USB mouse, turn on Settings → Accessibility → Touch → AssistiveTouch. Connection alone does not guarantee that mouse movement reaches the app.

  1. Check that your mouse is paired or connected and powered.
  2. Enable AssistiveTouch and check whether a pointer responds elsewhere on the iPhone.
  3. In DeskOS, open Help & Diagnostics → Mouse Test and move, click, and scroll.

If Mouse Test receives no movement, DeskOS cannot position a cursor from that device. Bluetooth permission does not unlock raw input from an ordinary mouse. The built-in phone trackpad remains available even when a physical mouse does not work.

Useful shortcuts

ShortcutAction
⌘ TNew browser tab
⌘ WClose the current browser tab
⌘ ZUndo supported edits
SpaceToggle Quick Preview for a selected file

Shortcuts depend on the active window and focused field. A website may reserve its own shortcuts.

Files, previews & projects

DeskOS can open its own documents and locations you choose through the iOS file picker. It cannot inspect another app's private files. Grant access to a folder or select the files you want to use.

Select a supported file and press Space or the Preview button for Quick Preview. Media compatibility depends on the file's format and the decoders available in iOS; a file extension alone does not guarantee playback.

Video projects save editing decisions and references to source media. Keep the originals in place and available. Moving, deleting, or losing permission to the originals can require reconnecting them. Project metadata, previews, caches, downloaded media, and exported videos still use storage.

Keep a separate copy of important files. For PDFs, use Save as New to preserve your original; saving next to the original requires write access to that location.

Browser & website compatibility

DeskOS uses Apple's WebKit for web content. It provides its own desktop-style browser interface; it is not Google Chrome and does not include Chrome Sync.

Supported website sessions are stored on the device. Websites may still expire sessions, require another login, block embedded browsers, restrict video playback, or display unsupported-browser notices. Signing in to one service does not guarantee that every related service will sign in automatically.

If a site behaves unexpectedly, try reloading it, checking your connection, and resetting the page zoom. If necessary, use DeskOS's browser cache controls. Clearing cookies or website data can sign you out; avoid deleting them unless you intend to reset your sessions.

WhatsApp linking and complex Google web-app workflows may be limited by those providers. Include the website address and the failed action in a support report, without including passwords or private page contents.
